Types of Tumble Dryer
Condensing dryers
Warm air is blown onto the washing and the steam created by this turns into condensation that can be collected in a reservoir, or lead out through the drains with a pump.
Venting dryers
The warm air from a venting dryer is released through a hose that can come out of a window or through a wall using a telescopic fitting. You should be careful where to you fit a venting dryer and normally they are not recommended in buildings with multiple households.
Gas dryers
Gas dryers are cheaper and faster than electric models. You need to have it connected to a gas supply and a member of the Confederation of Registered Gas Installers must carry this out.
Special Features
Sensor drying is a useful function letting you set the level of dryness you want. You may also want to have a timer. Heat settings and cool tumble are useful for reduced creasing and special treatment of fabrics. Reverse action makes the drum movement reverse to reduce creasing.
Combination Washer Dryer
The main reason you may want a washer dryer is probably for space. Washer dryers are also cheaper than buying 2 separate machines. You can also program the machine to wash and dry without interruption. You cannot dry a full load but usually about half a load at a time. Drying is less effective in a combined washer dryer compared to a tumble dryer. There are machines with more advanced options that have increased drying capacity but these are usually very expensive.
