Speaker Buying Advice
We’re here to help you!
We're here to help you buy new speakers. We've got advice and information about all the latest speakers, including subwoofer and PA-speaker, as well as speaker packages.Speakers are the most integral part of any audio system, therefore it is good to do a little bit of research about speakers before you buy them. Choosing speakers is one of the most important tasks in setting up any audio or audio/video system. The first step in choosing speakers is deciding what you need and where the speakers will go. It is very important to know where you are going to place your speakers as different rooms can have different requirements. Large rooms require more power in order for speakers to output high volume levels without distortion, so you probably need larger amplifiers for large room or more efficient speakers. If however you have small room you wont have to worry as much about amplifier power and speaker efficiency ratings.
To help you making the right choices when looking for speakers, you should consider the following points before your purchase:
- Different type of speakers
- Music Power
- Driver Configuration
- Impedance
- Sensitivity
- Magnetic Shielding
- Colour
Different type of speakers
When buying speakers, you may come across different type of speakers for different requirements such as Main speakers, Surround speakers, Speaker package, Subwoofer etc. Sub-woofers are large speakers, specifically designed to produce deep, precise bass. A large driver and enclosure are needed to move the high volume of air required to reproduce these frequencies accurately. There are two main type of Subwoofers active and passive. Active subwoofers have built-in amplification and passive Subwoofers contain no amplification. Speaker package normally consist of Surround speakers, Subwoofer and Main speakers or combination of these speakers. The Surround speakers carry music, sound effects, and ambient information to give a sense of distance and space that matches the onscreen action. Surround speakers are placed either to the sides of your favorite spot on the sofa, or behind it.Music Power
Helps you to define music power, Larger Music power is better for bigger rooms. Normally Music Power lies from 40Watts to 200Watts.
Driver Configuration
Driver Configuration is to tell you that your speaker is one-way, two-way or three-way. The less drivers the better, a two system is always better than a three-way or more.
Impedance
It is an electrical property. A low impedance draws a high current flow from the source, while a high impedance draws a little. This means that speakers with a low impedance are more difficult for an amplifier to drive. Lower impedance is in the range of 6-8 ohms.
Sensitivity
Speaker's sensitivity tells you how loud the speaker is per 2.83 Volts input. The higher the sensitivity, the weaker the amplifier you'll need to drive them.
Magnetic Shielding
The speaker is magnetically shielded, so it can be placed on a TV or video monitor without degrading the picture via stray magnetic fields. Speakers with no magnetic shielding can affect TV colours if they have been placed next to TV for long time.
Colour
You can choose different colour speakers to match your TV and HiFi system.
