There are different systems for videos but VHS is the system used for home video. If you want to be able to edit video recordings from you camcorder there are videos in both Super-VHS and Hi 8. D-VHS (Digital-VHS) is designed to record digital transmissions.

Sound
The sound type. Mono - The sound is played through just one channel. Stereo - The sound can be played through two channels.

VCR heads
Number of video heads. The more video heads the better the quality of picture when viewing still pictures and slow motion. Longplay recordings are also of a higher quality than those made with less video heads. VCRs with stereo come equipped with two extra heads specifically for sound.
