Review:
AEG HK654200FB

Powerful, easy to use and packed with features, this is a great induction hob.

If you’re looking for an energy-efficient induction hob that heats quickly, is simple to use, and comes with some useful features, then you really have to consider the excellent AEG HK654200FB.

Review:

For those not in the know, an induction hob heats by way of a magnetic field created by a coiled wire in the hob and it’s triggered by the introduction of a magnetic pan. This way the heat that’s generated is channelled into the pan only, rather than being absorbed into the surrounding machinery and therefore wasted. Induction hobs tend to be quicker to heat up, but a downside is that some materials won’t work – e.g. aluminium, copper or glass. So it’s worth checking what your pans are made of before you seriously consider the HK654200FB.

The stylish black AEG HK654200FB is 59 cm wide and 52 cm deep, with four cooking zones, a handy timer, and ergonomically-satisfying touch controls. It’s extremely fast to heat up and powerful to boot, with a host of nice features. The AutoMax function will bring a pan to the boil and then automatically drop to simmer – another great energy saving technique. The 'Stop+Go' feature will instantly set all four cooking zones to a 'keep warm' setting should your attention suddenly be required away from the kitchen (for example, to answer the front door or phone). Upon your return the hobs will spring back to life at the touch of a button, returning to their earlier settings. It’s also got a child protection lock and an automatic shutdown should you leave the kitchen to watch The Great British Bake Off final and forget to switch off your hob.

If there is one small gripe it’s with the induction process, rather than this particular model. As fast and efficient as induction is, it won’t heat your food as evenly as you find with a gas-fired hob. The simple solution to this is to give your food a couple more stirs than usual, but apart from this minor whinge the AEG HK654200FB is the real deal.

What’s hot:

  • Heats well and quickly
  • Excellent energy saving feature
  • Simple to use

What’s not:

  • Heat not as even as gas
  • Need to check your pans are compatible with induction
  • Requires an electrician to hard wire

Why you should buy it:

There aren’t many better induction hobs in the UK than the AEG HK654200FB. Fast and powerful, with loads of great features, we strongly recommend this product.
