The Lec CF100LW is an extremely good value little chest freezer that’s cheap to buy, cheap to run, light on features but big on the basics.
The freezer dimensions of 83 cm (H) x 58.5 cm (W) x 56.2 cm (D) are pretty compact, but you still get a storage capacity of 97 litres – more than enough for single living, and possibly sufficient for a small family. The lid is counterbalanced so there’s no risk of it slamming shut while you’re poking around and stocking the freezer. There’s just the one big compartment, but you get an ice cube tray and basket for those items you need to find and access quickly. It’s big enough to store whole joints of meat and oversized containers.
Apart from a temperature warning light this model is not jam-packed with features. For example, there’s no fast freezing or frost-free feature – meaning you will have to periodically defrost it. And if you experience a power cut woe betide you, because it’s advertised as having just a five hour safe storage window. On the plus side the excellent insulation properties of this model mean it can withstand outside temperatures of up to 43oC (although not less than 10oC, so it shouldn’t be kept in a garage or outside space during winter).
A great plus point of the Lec CF100LW is its excellent freezing capability. Even completely stuffed it should get temperatures down to -18 in less than a day. And once there it will keep it cool with great effectiveness. It produces just 40 decibels of noise (almost 30 decibels lower than the average conversation generates) and is cheap to run thanks to its A + energy rating.
