The Hotpoint RLAAV22P is a cheap under-the-counter fridge with amazing chilling power. It’s a basic model that’s quiet as a mouse - perhaps not as efficient as it could be - but definitely one for the shortlist.
This inexpensive, moderately-sized fridge has dimensions of 85 cm (H) x 54.5 cm (W) x 60 cm (D) and a capacity of 127 litres, making it ideal for a small family or couple. It’s a bit slimmer and taller than some under-the-counter models, so make sure you get your measurements right before making the purchase. It’s got two height-adjustable shelves and a crisper compartment, as well as three door racks - including one that’s adjustable so you can fit in extra tall bottles if needs be. It may not have a door open alarm or temperature alert but it does have anti-bacterial protection and comes complete with an auto defrost feature to stop ice building up. Most importantly of all it chills brilliantly, bringing temperatures down quickly even when completely full.
The RLAAV22P is well insulated against extremes of environmental temperature, and will continue to operate as normal even if the thermometer hits 43 oC. It’s also pretty quiet, producing 41 decibels – roughly the background sound of a public library. Its greatest strength – its chilling power – is inadvertently responsible for its main weakness; it costs more than average to run despite it’s A + energy rating.
Finally, the cool temperatures of this fridge aren’t evenly distributed so you’ll find the bottom shelves colder than the top. Bear this in mind when deciding where to put your more perishable items.
