UK buyers wanting a compact microwave that won’t cost a fortune, contains a few neat features, and has a bit of design flair about it, should stop and consider the Russell Hobbs RHM1714B.
With an ebony-black finish, attractive mirror door, curved handle, silver dial, and pleasantly rounded buttons, this stylish Russell Hobbs RHM1714B looks so dashing it rather belies its price tag. With dimensions of 45.2 cm (W) x 36 cm (D) x 26.2 cm (H) and an interior capacity of just 17 litres, it’s certainly not the largest model out there, and it’s also not the most potent with just 700 watts of power behind it. The easy-to-clean 24.5 cm glass turntable is a little on the small side, but should cope with small to medium sized plates. As is common with quite a few compact models, it does tend to slide across the kitchen counter when you open the door due to its lack of weight.
You’ll find a nice broad range of settings and features with the RHM1714B. They include auto defrost; an easy-to-read digital display and clock; auto cook with settings for foods such as popcorn, pizza reheating and fish; and five different power levels. Auto defrost simply requires the product weight and away you go. There’s also a child safety lock to prevent your young ones tampering with your settings or endangering themselves.
The RHM1714B is an effective oven, offering a nice even cook, although it’s not quite as quick as other models. At 700 W it is marginally less powerful than some of the competition, but overall it’s reliable and works efficiently.
- Nicely designed
- Cooks evenly
- Reasonably priced
- Quite small
- Lacking power at 700 W
- Initially difficult to understand menu system
Why you should buy it:
The Russell Hobbs RHM1714B isn’t especially powerful at 700 W, but it’s inexpensive, stylish, and comes with some nice settings and features.
