| Why would anyone buy a DVD recorder? | |||
| Easy to set up and use
Great picture quality, much better than DVD Set to record at the touch of a button by going through the EPG, Can record two programmes and watch a recorded one at the same time - amazing! Pause and rewind live TV Stores recorded programmes with name and date/time Easy to search and find programmes (up to 7 days ahead) by name or genre in the EPG Good-looking hardware |
|||
| EPG does take a few minutes to load when you switch the machine on, but you get used to this. | |||
| 10/10.
I was thinking about subscribing to Sky purely for the Sky plus system as I was sick of the recordable DVDs piling up and not knowing what was on most of them. Then I heard about hard drive recorders. I hadn't heard of Humax but looking at all the online reviews the Humax PVRs seem to be way ahead of the better known brands in terms of what they offer for under £200. For people who record alot of TV this is a no brainer. Buy one today. You won't be disappointed. |

| Humax PVR9200T | |||
| Easy to use, great picture quality, excellent EPG (once it has loaded in), large internal hard drive, looks good, great functionality, all round a really excellent device. | |||
| The EPG does take a while to load in. The solution we found was to set the timer to switch it on an hour or so before we got in from work so it was loaded ready. One other feature it doesn't seem to have is a program reminder function. | |||
| We have recently moved house and can't get freeview, so can't use this anymore, and it made us realise just how sublime the Humax is and how much we utilised it's functions. We now have sky but would change back to this at the drop of a hat if we could. I would recommend it to anyone. Easy to use, it changes the way you watch TV. Every house in a Freeview area should have one! The best £200 I've spent in ages. | |||

| Great design, extremely well thought out software which makes it very easy to use,outstanding picture both live and recorded.

|||
| For the money it would be hard to critisize. | |||
| All of my home entertainment products are Panasonic so I was a little bit worried about buying from a manufacturer I had not heard of. I read some of the reviews on this site and decided to buy one. It is one of the best buys I have made. Setting equipment to record was a pain and sometimes if I was in a rush I wouldn't bother. The Humax has changed that, it is so easy to program and there is no worring about the tape or disc running out. I could go on, it is enough to say that I would recommend the Humax even if it were £100 more, buy one it's brilliant. | |||

| Very pleased | |||
| - Easy to set up and use, clear instructions;
- smart and nicely laid out remote; - no noise in standby mode, slight noise from fan when operating, but hardly noticeable; - good picture quality; - useful features such as favourites, search programme guide, picture in picture, etc; - over the air software updates. |
|||
| Programme guide can take several minutes to download. Only extends one week ahead. | |||
| Very pleased so far with this product. So easy to record - just find the programme in the guide and press OK, or watch the channel and press the record button. Can also pause or rewind live TV. Recorded programmes are listed with details of programme title, time, date etc which is very useful. | |||

| Better than DVD recorder | |||
| At is most basic, IE record TV it is very easy. Bring up the 7 day EPG and press OK, thats it. Picture quality is very good compared to my Panasonic DVD recorder. There are more advanced features that are a litle more complicated but not too much. | |||
| I needed to think hard here, there arn't many if any. The worst things I can think of are that when you are recording two channels together, depending on which channels, the options of which other channel to watch are limited. The remote is not the best quality, not bad but not brilliant. Thats it. | |||
| Very good and would recomend to anyone. The wife is a technofobe, and even she likes it, and can actually use it easily. | |||

| Best thing since sliced bread! | |||
| I have to say the PVR9200T is the best piece of technology I have ever owned.
I watched far too much TV before, now I watch even more. The product is so easy to use from setting it up (which means basically plugging in), to one touch button recording. I also understand that you can transfer images, footage and music to your PC or personal video/MP4 player. It also comes with a 2 year warranty, which is just as well as I bought it from Currys and there return policy is they don't have one! The software can also be updated automatically via the digital signal. |
|||
| I have experienced some of the problems that other users have mentioned of it freezing and not recording things properly or at all. | |||
| In short even with the few problems experienced (if it was that much of a problem I would have used the warranty) it is such a good product. The twin tuner (most PVRs don't have this) is also a big plus point as the EPG.
The price is also extremely competitive in comparison to other products on the market. Buy one is my advice to anybody thinking about owning a PVR and they don't want Sky / Sky + |

| So much more reliable than Digifusion. I returned three of them!
Light years ahead of the hassle of removable media. Any archiving can be transferred to Disc. Remembers weekly programmes, and the EPG can search by genre when planning ahead. |
|||
| Cannot think of any although VPS would make it perfect. | |||
| Just buy it. Watching TV is completely transformed. No more piles of unlabled tapes all full. Just press a button! Twin tuner is essential for a family of four and if you cannot watch a recorded program in one go it remembers exactly where you got to. | |||

| Where do you start! Record 2 channels at once; chase play; fast forward the adverts (when watching in time delay); rewind live tv; large hard drive; easy to set recording schedule; automatic buffering (so you don't miss the start or end of programmes) and many more...... | |||
| None that I have found. ( well ok, the remote is on the large side, but you get used to it - and it has to be large to accommodate all those buttons) | |||
| This is a fantastic bit of kit, even my fiancee who is a complete technophobe loves it. I don't find myself watching more telly, but I just watch what I want, when I want. The guide is very user friendly and the software is very stable. I ran the over the air upgrade as soon as I got the machine and it worked brilliantly. I recommend setting the timer buffers early on, as I didn't and missed the last two minutes of a film I recorded - very annoying.
Don't hesitate - just buy it. I purchased from Dabs.com who were the cheapest and it arrived next day, absolutely no problems! |

| Ease of use
Picture quality Functionality Find feature to search through programs recordings edditing |
|||
| After the latest software update (transmitted over DTV and unit upgraded automatically) the crash problem has now gone away completely.
Functions that are not in it at the moment (but are being worked on for the next software update) are EPG to be saved to Hard disk when unit goes in standby (currently EPG is lost every time the unit is turned to standby) and a series track feature same as in SKY+. Currently you can schedule recording based on time either daily or weekly but is a program moves it does not follow it to the new time. |
|||
| An excellent machine that changes the way you watch TV. Humax are continuing to improve it with software updates that add new functionality | |||

| Great recorder! | |||
| I have had this recorder 6 months and have used it for many hours
each day whilst housebound. It enables me to be more selective in what I view as it will record up to two channels at a time (a third can also be watched on the analogue signal). The storage capacity is huge. Setting up was extremely simple and the picture quality comparable to that of cable TV. Setting the recordings is also very easy from the program menu and times can now be extended in case transmission is delayed. |
|||
| There is noise from the fan on the hard disk drive but this can be reduced to a low hum by putting padding under the feet. It is still much quieter than my old VHS recorder.
I was told by customer support that freezing of the picture was due to a software compatibility problem - this has now been resolved and I now rarely experience problems. Regular updates of software occur at 4am so that the recorder is best left on standby at night (updates can also be downloaded from the Humax website). |

| Brilliant, easy to use and reliable (after update) | |||
| - Excellent picture quality
- Good on screen display - Very intuitive - Well laid out remote control (much, much better than the 'dozens of tiny buttons put on with a shotgun' layout of the Topfield) - Since updating to software version PGXTF 1.00.04 it's been utterly stable and not crashed once - Twin tuner so able to record two things at once, or watch one and record another (and occasionally record two things and watch a third!) - Being able to pause live TV (and all the other usual niceties of a hard disk PVR) |
|||
| The only weakness was a very, very high propensity for crashing (sometimes several times a day) when I first got it. I did some investigating and discovered that it was having difficulty dealing with the MHEG data for the interactive portion of the BBC channels.
After investing £6.99 in a null modem cable, and downloading the latest PGXTF 1.00.04 version of the software to the box, it has been utterly stable. |
|||
| A brilliant, easy to use, highly functional box that I love to bits! (just make sure you update the software - download from the Humax website: http://www.humaxdigital.com/hcsa/Download/Products/PVR-9200T.asp) | |||

| Everything except remote control build quality and TV guide can miss the last minute of recorded programme. Still 5******. | |||
| Remote control is well organised but the plastic extra buttons cover has broke. Still usable and build on actual player is 5*****. Looks sexy!!!!
Agree with start up being long - takes about 15 secs but is your are aware of this then you have no problems. |
|||
| Excellent - 5*****. Picture quality is great. Recording quality is great. Able to record 2 channels and watch a 3rd (if on same network) is more than anybody would want. TV guide recording is very easy but for important programmes add 5 mins. Has changed the whole family' viewing programme. The kids now eat with us using the excellent "live pause" and I get to see some Tv now once the kids are in bed. | |||

| Don't waste your money | |||
| Looks good, also good digital twin tuners | |||
| This Humax 9200T has suffered lock ups every day since I bought it. I waited until the update was available, but it still locks up but just not quite so often. However, the unit now has constant "hard disk errors" when I try to replay any recordings, although I was able to play some of them before. Tried re-fromatting the hard drive but this has had no effect. | |||
| This unit is a waste of time and money, it's not of "merchantable" quality. I can't believe that a company would release a unit that has some many inherent faults. See digital-spy for list of other users bad experience with this unit.
I'm awaiting a refund so I can buy something that works. Save yourself some grief don't consider this one, there are plenty of others to choose from. |

| Really disappointed | |||
| Would be a really good product if it worked. I have a Humax 8000 which is excellent and which worked from the moment it was plugged in. | |||
| I haven't managed to get one that works! I bought one from 247 electrical that turned out to have been returned by another customer (bought in March and had recordings from December on hard drive!) it didn't work properly so I returned it and got a refund. Having lost confidence in 247 I bought a second one from Martin Dawes - that worked briefly and then kept freezing up. It is such a shame - it would be a really good product if only it worked. | |||
| What a great pity these machine don't appear to be as reliable as the 8000 - I would love the extra functions on the 9200 but if they can't provide one that works I am beginning to get quite fed up. I will try a third one if I can get Martin Dawes to supply a replacement that works. If that one fails I shall give up and look at another manufacturer! | |||

| Loss of recordings | |||
| Recording and playback excellent (when available - see below) | |||
| Running latest specification (updated via their website): Hardware version: PVR9200T Rev 1.0
Software version: PGXTF 1.00.01 Loader version: a 4.07 Extract of email to Humax technical support sites: "- we had circa 50 or 60+ programs recorded - Some have been edited (adverts removed or start/ends cropped) but none were protected - the hard disk usage is 39.1%, 52.1Gb with a remaining free amount of 94.1Gb - Switching on the unit this morning, it was noted that the playlist was reduced to only two programmes from the original list of 50 or 60+. - Checking the hard disk usage remained at around 39.1%, however there appears to be no way to access any of the programs except the two that remain listed." Note that Humax have not responded or even acknowledged to 3 separate emails to their technical support, the first of which was dated 04/02/06 |
|||
| Unit was brilliant until the loss of all recorded programs TWICE in two months with the hard disk less than 50% full.
My suggestion would be to avoid this product unless you do not mind random loss of access to your favorite recorded programmes. Unsatisfactory Humax technical support. Full refund to be requested from the retailer under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 |

| PVR9200 | |||
| The 9200 is very easy to set up, so you can be up and running very quickly. The controls are very intuitive, so there's no need to be continually looking through the user manual. Recording via the programming guide is extremely easy. The ability to record two channels while watching a third is more than anyone could reasonably want, and being able to time shift 'live' TV is also amazing. Build quality seems good. | |||
| Every time the 9200 is switched on it takes 15-20 seconds to fire up - this doesn't seem a lot, but it goes by slowly when you're waiting.
The other main niggle is that when recording via the programming guide its easy to lose the end of a programme. When recording, say, an hour long programme via the guide, the recording will will start on the hour, but stop at 59 minutes passed the hour. Why it doesn't run the full 60 minutes is beyond me! This can result in the end of the programme being lost. The start and stop times can be input or edited manually to override this, but it detracts from the simplicity of the system. It would be useful if the machine had the system incorporated that allowed it to detect the start and end of a programme, so that it would automatically adjust for transmission delays etc - I can't remember what this system is called. |
|||
| So far I'm extremely happy with the 9200. The main problem may be that I end up watching more TV than I used to. | |||
