| Phenominal pictures via hdmi on 720p and 1080i with hd dvd disc (The Mummy Returns) -no 1080p but unless you have a 50'' panel or bigger no big deal.
The Hi Def picture is 95% as good as HDMI thro' component if you don't have a HD ready panel! Picture quality -particularly colour saturation and sharpness even better than off-air Beeb hd broadcasts(which in themselves are generally better than Sky HD) Brilliant 5:1 DD and DTS Tru hd dolby sound but you will need an amplifier with with both HDMI input and output if you want to realise this.It is still better thro the optical lead than what you would be used to particularly the separation between channels. Upscaling with standard def dvd's is impressive(as good as the current range of 1080p upscaling panasonic recorders and players)but this is a bonus only as nothing can scale up to anything as good as the hd dvd. |

| slow start up (Not as slow as mags would have u believe
and once under way as quick as anything else! Limited in the tweaking department and -with HD DVD if you stop it you can not return to that scene (but you can with standard dvd) which is a bit tiresome |

| Despite a few little foibles (which may be addressed via downloads as it has ethernet connection or oldies like me can ask Tosh to post them a disc).this machine is brilliant particularly as you can pick one up for c £200 -you even get a decent quality hdmi lead in the box)
