Title of review It sucks....the life out of every fruit and veg!
What are the strengths? I've been using the juicer/compressor everyday since I purchased the item (5 days ago). I only decided to buy the product now because I did have doubts. Those included 'will the juicer draw out everything from the fruits and veg I use? or will there my liquid residue left in the pulp which would be a waste unless I squeeze it out myself?', 'If I'm going to spend this much money on a juicer, then it had better perform like an athlete that never retires' and finally 'what if I purchase the item, and I find I'm not using it as often as I thought because the product didn't turn out to be what I thought it would?'

The answer to my first doubt : It turns the pulp into powder! I took a handful of the pulp, and it was a little moist, but the pulp crumbled out of my hands as I sprinkled it. So yes, the juicer sucks the life out of carrots, apples, oranges, berries, you name it. I make use of the pulp too! neighbours of mine feed the pulp to their pets. It makes great rabbit food, bird food, and annie the dog loves carrot pulp mixed with her biscuits.

2nd doubt: It performs very well. The best part of using the juicer is 'sitting back and watching' part, or not even that, you can let it run while you're doing something else. Whatsmore, the juicer is pretty fast. I began preparing juices prior to preparing a meal so everything would be organised, but the time it takes to set the table, the juicer will have transformed the veg/fruits to liquid into the foam separator jug (supplied with juicer) ready to go. You're probably wondering 'ok, but you also have to consider the time it takes to chop the fruits and veg' - all I need to do is wash what is to be compressed and throw it in, with the exception of skined fruits such as oranges, pineapples....unless you prefer to include the zest. I've found grating the citrics is better for me since I like to use zests in dishes I make, or cakes I bake.

3rd doubt: I think the above two already answer this.

Remaining advantages include

- good instruction guide with recipes and nutritional info on foods you can use with the juicer.
-the two speeds allow certain softer fruits to be grated at slower rates as well as making sure that the juice is fully extracted
- easy to clean.
- the pulp container might contribute to the juicers bulkiness, but if the container were any smaller, it would be too small. The container has a perfect volume for the times I use it.
What are the weaknesses? It's a bit bulky- when in use, the juicer takes up a wee bit of surface space, but I do have a small kitchen.

Pulp won't fall - a lot of the times, the pulp gathers pretty quickly in the lid, and not into the pulp container. My solution is tapping the lid so the pulp falls.

I'm not to keen on the textured aluminium - This could just be my personal preference, but I'll wait and see what others say about it. to be sure to wipe the body from excess juice, one must wipe with the grain of the aluminium (horizontally) as opposed to the more natural circular motions, orelse it feels like you're sanding down your sponge/cloth.

Value for money (average) - despite the praises I have given the juicer, I have only been using it for 5 days. If it performs as I believe it will perform, then I may change this comment in the future. But until then, the price reflects the 'trendy' aluminium design just as much as the mechanics and performance of it. So if you're looking for something that just does the job where design isn't an issue, then reconsider before purchasing this item.

Design: I'm not a designer myself, but I believe the best designer is the consumer. If I would like to improve this product, I would
- not use textured aluminium (the fact that the body doesn't show finger marks is great, but somewhat pointless since I wipe the body after every use.)
- include some form of protection barrier (rubber/silicon layer) where the aluminium clamps attach themselves to the feeding tube to prevent scratching (its literally sand paper to a clear plastic surface)

Longevity - With most technical items, I purchase a guarantee because I don't believe technology has reached 100% damage proof. But to reassure consumers that philips have faced this reality, an extra filter would have been handy...expecially for the price it is being sold for.
Summary Overall the product is outstanding for the job I bought it to do. It certainly compensates any regrets I have about parting with so much money for a juicer...oh, and the textured aluminium. I mentioned above that I only just decided to purchase the product because I let the market decide for me. Was there a demand for this particular item compared to other juicers. When it made its debut, I wanted to see if it maintained its price as a reflection of the quality, and if the product was selling, what stores/internet shops were selling it. Now I have it, and I'm satisfied with my choice.
