I ordered 3 dvds from them a few weeks ago and in the shopping basket the total cost came to 31.47 but when I received the email confirmation the cost had gone up to 65.97! I immediately contacted their Helpdesk and luckily had kept a screen shot of the shopping basket.
Needless to say that a month later after emailing them 4-5 times, ringing their Customer Helpline twice and writing once (without any reply) Im still not getting any satisfaction. To be honest I dont care about the dvds as Im returning them but I am annoyed by their contempt for customers especially when I asked for the name of the Customer Services Manager so I could write to them and was told they dont give out staff members names
..
They are cheap, but so is sendit, so if you use them just be aware if you have a unusual query they dont want to know.

| Rating |  1 / 5 | | Comment | I always used to shop from play but now realise what a poor system they're running. They seem to be cheap and easy until you run across any problems at which point they can't do anything because "The System won't allow them to." My first problem was with some Hip Pop Pets which I preordered in October. I was told that they would get to me by Christmas but unfortunately by the end of November it still hadn't updated. At the end of December the product now said the dreaded "awaiting stock." Three months later I cancelled my order and requested a refund. They never let me know what was wrong with the order even when I called up. What's more, if more than one item is purchased at a time they send each one indivdually packaged. The bags don't keep the items safe and are made out of a thick plastic material which is unrecyclable. Bring on global warming. For that and many other reasons, I will not be 'play'ing ever again. |

However before Christmas (18/12), I placed an order that wasn't sent due to them not accepting my amex credit card.
So yesterday (25/2), two months later I was looking at buying a memory card. Entered in a new credit card so I could see the total price. Didn't want to buy it so didn't authorise it.
So I was really surprised today when they started sending me emails confirming processing and postage of my order from 18/2.
I gave absolutely no authorisation for play.com to charge these items and believed that I had removed them, yet they processed them anyway. Contacted play they couldn't care less, even when I said I would be getting the charges reversed. The customer rep was rude and abusive.
Being cheaper doesn't help when you get stuff you don't want or authorise, so will not being using them again. If you do feel that you can use them make sure you don't have anything lurking in your outstanding orders.

Do not use play.com to buy any electronics
I ordered a £400 TV from play as a xmas present - it arrived and the picture was green as if in night vision, manufacturers warrenty issue so I sent it back. They then lost the TV in newcastle depot and it took 4 weeks to get a refund. The refunded only £269 and it was only the fact that I was constant checking my account that the mistake was highlighted by me and the full amount was refunded after another week.
I then decided to give them the benift of the doubt and reorder a different TV that came with a stand. There was a mistake and they took 2 payments from my account both of £430, when I phoned again they apologised and told me to reject the first tv and stand and it would be refunded. I rejected it after staying in to collect and in went straight back to depot. The 2nd never arrived but apparantly the same delivery company couldn't find the same house they already delivered to 2 days prior so that went back to play as well. I now have no TVs have cancelled my order and play.com have £860 of my money that they have taken so far 10 days to refund.

Items are supposed to be shipped within 24 hrs, this is rarely the case, i ordered a dvd it said in stock, then processing, then packing...then processing then packing....you get the picture. after 2 wks it finally arrived. I ordered the slingshot flying monkey and the slingshot flying chicken for my kids for Christmas. On the website it says that if you order these you get a flying pig for free, ok I just thought that this would happen automatically because I had ordered the other two. My mistake. I rang them today to find out where the pig was and was told that I was supposed to have 'ordered' it for me to get it. When I explained that I hadn't done that but could they send it to me as I had bought the other two as well as a big Christmas order, it was like talking to brick wall. It was the inflexibility that annoyed me, it was a £2.99 product and I had spent over a £100 with them. I asked to speak to a manager and after being told that 'he's only going to tell you the same thing' I spoke to him. He was a supposed Customer Services Manager and instead of listening to me he took a very patronising tone. He then proceeded to talk over me and when he wouldn't let me talk and I told him this he accused me of doing that to him! Who's the customer here? He was a nasty piece of work, I work in Customer Service and there was no need for the rudeness that I was subject to. I won't have sleepless nights that I don't have the £2.99 product but their attitude towards their customers is appalling, Even when I told them to cancel my account they just weren't bothered. The only critism I would have is there is no option to upgrade for next day delivery. Typically it takes 3 days to arrive, not that essential for me. I hate Amazon and just refuse to use it, it is an aweful company and the handful of times I have used it, I've had problems. I don't understand why people have had problems with Play, I've bought all sorts off them. DVD's, CD's, PC hardware, TV's ... the lot really and never had any problems. When I ordered it the site said stock was expected in on the 26th of November, fine!
On the same day I was requested to call customer services for additional security checks, I spoke to a guy and voiced concerns over getting stock on time. I was reassured that no problems were anticipated .
I continued to check the products status online and noticed it was no longer on the main site to pre-order. I (foolishly) assumed this was because pre orders had ran out.
On the 26th I re-checked my account section and noticed the status had changed to order taken.
I waited several hours for this to become dispatched etc, which it never did, I then called customer services .
The representative told me that the stock had not come in, and that there was no further stock date scheduled, that there was no way to chase up the order. He also had no way to directly access a stock query. He said that it was entirely possible that stock may not arrive for up to 28 days or more.
I then asked to speak to his supervisor and was put onto Connor (who refused to give me his full name). Connor stated that Play.com had been let down by the supplier, however I had received no notification of this. Whats more when I mentioned its disappearance from the main site I was told that it had been removed from the site because Play.com did not know when stock would be arriving. This happened days ago, why was I not informed that my product was late. I was then told that I couldnt have been informed earlier as the supplier had only let play.com know of the issue on the 26th. Clearly i was being lied to.
I understand suppliers let companies down, but I expect better customer service.
I was not contacted as soon as issues arose because theres not an automated system for that, and all I received when speaking to customer service reps and supervisors was a rude tone, hollow apologies, a complete lack of information, and absolutely no moves to placate, appease or compensate me for the appalling situation.
I doubt whether Play.com ever had a stock order booked for the 26th, rather I think that it put up a pre-order item, received orders and then tried to order stock. I also know that is not the first time Play.coms pre-order service has proven shambolic. A co-worker of mine waited months for an X-box 360 when it came out (having pre-ordered at the first available date), had I known of this earlier i would never have placed the order .
As it is I have cancelled my order, and it is extremely doubtful I will use the site again. I shall also be advising friends and family not to bother using Play.com, especially if they are expecting anything to arrive on-time for Christmas. | | Do you recommend this retailer? | No |
