Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
A super camera and impressive performance make this a real winner.
When Samsung released the Galaxy S6 Edge in 2015 it was touted as possibly the best Android phone ever. With an impressive camera, an innovative curved screen design, and a muscular performance, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is still one of the best smartphones on the market even now.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is beautifully designed with an aluminium frame and Gorilla glass on both the front and back. The glass is specially hardened, making it scratch-proof and extremely robust. The 5.1-inch display wraps around the phone, creating some novel phone functions such as being able to park app shortcuts on the edges, or housing a clock display which you can see while still lying down in your bed. The large screen looks fantastic but the curved design makes it marginally less comfortable to hold than its flatter cousins. With Samsung's AMOLED technology, the 2560 x 1440 pixel display delivers a stunning array of colours and also fantastic deep and even blacks.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has a truly great camera both front and back. The rear-facing camera with 16 megapixels produces some amazingly sharp pictures, with a few interesting filters and after effects for the creative types out there. Selfie fans will also appreciate the excellent 5 megapixel front-facing camera too, with its wide-angle lens allowing for some good group selfie opportunities. The main camera lens has an aperture of f1.9, meaning it allows a lot more light in than many other camera phones on the UK market. Alongside megapixels, the F-number of a camera lens is a reliable indicator of how good a camera may be, and in this case the lower the number the better. The Galaxy S6 Edge is so good it can take pictures without the flash even in low light conditions, and is still one of the very best camera phones.
Inside the phone the powerful processors make browsing the menu system and the web a piece of cake. The Samsung Galaxy Edge is one of the stronger performers, and it comes with some important features such as the fingerprint-scanner on the home button to provide added security, as well as a pedometer to keep a check on your physical activities. If you were to quibble then it would be to point out that the 32 GB of storage can’t be upgraded, and this model isn’t dust or waterproof either.
