Samsung keeps coming up with the goods. The UE48JU7000 is a top notch 4K UHD television with fabulous pictures, great sound and a large number of Smart TV features to keep you endlessly entertained.
Although it doesn’t feature some of the very latest technologies such as Samsung’s “SUHD” or Quantum Dot colour, the UE48JU7000 provides a rich and detailed display that belies its reasonable price (approximately a grand in the UK as of October 2016). There’s still plenty to admire here, with an LED backlighting system automatically adjusting light levels to enhance the screen’s contrast. Colours look bright and well balanced, especially with higher resolution content such as 4K UHD, while motion is handled effortlessly, even during scenes of high action. 3D content is stunning, but a minor drawback is that the viewing angle is a little restrictive.
The audio quality of the UE48JU7000 is largely very good. Despite there being just two 10 W inbuilt speakers, voices, sound effects and music come through remarkably clearly and with impressive detail - although if you push the volume up too high you’re likely to notice some mild distortion. Bass notes are handled well despite the lack of a subwoofer but, again, cracks can appear under pressure. Fortunately you have an HDMI ARC port and digital audio output to connect a soundbar or home cinema system.
There are features galore here, from the inbuilt Freesat HD and Freeview HD decoders, to 3D functionality. There’s also twin-tuner PVR for not only pausing live TV but recording one channel while watching another. The TV is extremely simple to set up, with a snappy Quad-Core processor to make everything run smoothly, and comes with a full range of on-demand services such as BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Finally, with a massive four HDMI ports and three USBs (all housed in a handy separate box to improve cable management), you’ll never run out of sockets for your devices.
- Great picture and sound quality
- Very good value for money
- Wide array of features and great connectivity
- Tight viewing angle
- No SCART for older devices

Why you should buy it: This is a fantastic 48-inch television, loaded with great Smart TV features, for a very reasonable price. While the latest Quantum Dot display and HDR screen technology may not be there you’re unlikely to notice as the picture quality is incredible.
